The show highlights the humorous side of more than two dozen participating artists. All of the pieces make light of different aspects of American Indian culture. Examples include a piece titled “Don’t Squeeze the Shaman,” and another that depicts Sitting Bull as Superman.

Benjamin Harjo Jr., creator of “Humor Without Reservations,” said it’s important to have a sense of humor when it comes to art.

“I think people like this show because it presents something that they don’t usually see, which is humor in artwork. I don’t think art should always be so serious,” said Harjo, noting that participating artists had no restrictions. “I wanted the artists to be able to have fun with whatever they were creating. I want them to be able to look at their own work and smile.”

While Sunday’s opening is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m., the show runs through May 10. Tribes 131 is open Tuesdays through Saturdays. For more information, call 329-4442 or visit tribes131.com. —Courtney Silva
