Do yourself a favor and just order one. It will be difficult, looking at the menu at the Creperie & European Cafe, 2839 S. Douglas Blvd. in Midwest City, to do that. There are so many delicious options, and they are all so cheap.
You might say to yourself, “These must be pretty small.” You will be wrong. “I bet I can eat three of these, easy,” you will continue. And you will continue to be wrong. They are big crêpes. Filled with delicious stuff. And you will spend a paltry $15 to fill your table with food you are honor-bound to devour, no matter how full you are.
What is a crêpe? It’s like a thin French pancake. It can be eaten plain, with a bit of butter and syrup or filled with all sorts of amazing things.
At Creperie, you can choose from breakfast food-stuffed crêpes or lunch food-stuffed crêpes or decadent dessert crêpes. And with prices ranging from $4 to $7, it’s kind of a ridiculous deal.
If you go early, and you should, the ham, egg and cheese crêpe ($4.50) is huge and so good. You can probably split this one with a friend. Or an enemy. Or a stranger. Look, whomever you choose to share or not share this crêpe with is up to you. It’s just a lot of food is all. It’s good! The crêpes are tender and just a bit pliable. You will almost certainly want to use a knife and fork, just for the sake of cleanliness.
If you’re a fan of heat, the chorizo, egg, bell pepper, onion and jack cheese ($5) is another winner. And you will also be a winner for ordering it. Congratulations! We all knew you could do it!
You could also go the sweet route and get the French toast crêpe ($3.50) with brown sugar, butter and cinnamon. It’s kind of ridiculous.
For lunch options, the broccoli and cheese ($4.50) savory crêpe had nice, tender broccoli hidden inside.
But the BBQ chicken with smoked Gouda cheese and sautéed onion ($6) is another very good choice, especially if you’re looking to fill up.
Before we get to desserts, I should tell you that Creperie also serves shepherd’s pie ($6.99) with a small salad and bread. The pie is exceptional, especially if you love the taste of buttery mashed potatoes.
There are also sandwiches, which are OK but not crêpe-level great. The best of the ones I had was the prime rib with cheese and caramelized onions ($7.50). It was tasty but kind of plain.
If you’re dead set against getting a crêpe, you’re a moron. Or you’re a genius who heard about the pelmeni ($6.50) and the pierogi ($6), because oh my goodness. Pelmeni are meat-filled dumplings. Pierogi are potato-filled dumplings covered in butter and sour cream and bacon. They are unreasonably good, especially if you have a personal vendetta against your heart.
I have a soft spot in my heart (metaphorical and physical, I’m sure) for dumplings. Potstickers and gyoza and pierogis. I love them all. And these are like mini-crêpes, but they are absolutely bursting with flavor. I highly recommend them, though I warn you they do sell out.
Once you have had your fill — and you will be stretching your stomach to do so — you’ll get dessert. Because why not? Peanut butter and jelly in a crepe? $3.25. Strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate syrup? $4. Knowing this place is in Midwest City just waiting for you to visit? Priceless. Because the Creperie & European Cafe is a little treasure in a strip mall in the weirdest place you’d expect.
