WestFest announces its 2016 music lineup

It’s official. WestFest organizers released this year’s music lineup to Oklahoma Gazette first, and we’re sharing it with you.

The free street party and music festival returns for its second year to the Western Avenue district between 41st and 43rd streets, which will close to welcome an expected 10,000-15,000 revelers noon-10 p.m. Sept. 3, organizers said.

This year’s lineup features headliner David Ramirez, a folk-Americana act from Austin, Texas, as well as rock, hip-hop and rap, soul, pop, rock, singer-songwriter, indie folk-rock, acoustic, country, blues and more.

Organizers also added a second outdoor stage for this year’s event.

This year’s main stage gets live and loud with around 10 music acts, including Ramirez, indie rocker Chase Kerby + The Villains, bright alt-pop band Husbands, roots-rock act KALO, Southern rock-tinged alt-country act Black Canyon, alternative blues-rocker Nicn?s, post-rock band Forum, garage-country act Porch Mice, existential rock five-piece The So Help Me’s and funk-bluegrass-country fusion act The Captain Ledge Band.

The main stage will set up outside VZD Restaurant & Bar, 4200 N. Western Ave. #D, and neighboring A Date With Iris.

The north stage features rapper Jabee, alt-rocker Fiawna Forté, Americana-folk act Judith, indie-folk bands Willow Way and Exit Glaciers, singer-songwriter Katie Williams, progressive blues-rock act Connor Hicks Band and minimalist experimental harp and ukulele performer sun riah.

WestFest’s inaugural event last year featured headliners Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Deerpeople, Beau Jennings + The Tigers and a lineup filled with genre-busting acoustic, singer-songwriter, EDM, rock, pop, neo-soul and hip-hop. An estimated 5,000-7,000 guests filled the corridor for the 2015 event, said Rachael Taylor, Western Avenue Association executive director and WestFest chairwoman.

Venues along the strip join the family-friendly, daylong block party. In addition to specially priced food and drinks in air-conditioned bars and restaurants in the district, Oklahoma City craft brewing company Anthem Brewing will be there, as will a roster of local food trucks.
