With an impending legislative deadline upon it, the state House took some time out on March 14 to express formal disapproval of two members of that chamber.

The first was against Rep. Mike Reynolds, R-Oklahoma City, who was compelled to interrupt a preacher’s sermon, which included a discussion on healthy lifestyles. Reynolds apparently thought the holy man was out of bounds in lobbying for having a healthy citizenry, so the rep made a mid-sermon call for a point of order.

After a Republican lunch caucus meeting, which we here at CFN imagine involved a food fight and overturned tables, a shouting match occurred between Reynolds and Rep. Dan Kirby, R-Tulsa, according to The Oke’s account of the festivities.

During debate over his reprimand, Reynolds said Kirby, who sponsored the minister, also deserved a reprimand because he allegedly threatened to slug Reynolds in the mouth. The measure reprimanding Reynolds passed 67-17.

Meanwhile, the latest in the ongoing saga of Rep. Randy Terrill, R-Moore, versus House Speaker Kris Steele, R-Shawnee, came when the House passed a resolution, 34-30, reprimanding Terrill for allegedly making profane comments about Steele in Rep. Dan Sullivan’s (R-Tulsa) office.

A sworn statement from an unidentified person (let the credibility of that statement sink in for a moment) presented an account of Terrill allegedly threatening to break Steele’s good leg, according to The Oke. Steele was crippled in an accident as a child.

Steele
and Terrill have clashed over legislative priorities at least since the
November election. Steele since launched a House investigation into
allegations against Terrill, stemming from bribery charges in Oklahoma
County, while Terrill and others blocked the emergency clause in a bill
by Steele shifting power away from the Oklahoma Board of Education,
effectively delaying its implementation.

Meanwhile,
House Minority Leader Scott Inman, D-Del City, said in a speech to
Democrat activists that he thought Reynolds probably hates Steele more
than he does. Oh, sure, everybody hates Kris now.

Inman’s
quote was published on the CapitolBeatOK website, and later, Inman
issued a statement to the site that he was joking and that “I do not
hate Speaker Steele, and Mike Reynolds has never said anything to
indicate that he hates Kris Steele.” It is unknown whether Inman was
later stuffed into a locker for this slight.
