Planned highlights for this year’s tour include Guilford Gardens and the Potager Garden, soon to be featured in Southern Living magazine. 

The date for the 2014 Garden Tour for Connoisseurs was announced this week, and will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 4 in Oklahoma City.

The event is presented by the Oklahoma Horticultural Society. This year features six families that are opening their landscapes and gardens to the public to entertain and educate the community. The homes are located close to each other in Putnam Heights, Crown Heights, Nichols Hills and near Lake Aluma, a media statement said.

The gardens on the tour include Bill Hawk near Lake Aluma, Kamala Gamble in West Nichols Hills with the Guilford Gardens, Linda Vater at Crown Heights with the Potager Garden, Steve and Jini Morris in Crown Heights, Kris Balaban (owner of A Date With Iris floral studio) in Putnam Heights and Martha Burger at Country Club Drive, the organization confirmed.

Tickets go on sale Sept. 6 at these garden centers: TLC Nursery and Greenhouses at 105 W. Memorial Road, 751-0630, and 4535 N.W. Expressway, 720-6842; Precure Nursery and Garden Centers at 8125 W. Reno Ave., 789-4930 and 4535 NW 63rd St., 721-5637; Marcum’s Nursery at 2121 S.W. 119th St., 691-9100; Tony’s Tree Plantation at 3801 S. Post Road, 405-455-7700; Myriad Botanical Gardens at 301 W. Reno Ave., 235-4769 and Wild Bird’s Unlimited at 7501 N. May Ave., 842-9910. They also will be available at host homes on the date of the tour.
