The Fabulous St. Knicholas Cage — Shit Surf

The four-piece might become a National Treasure if it keeps producing music as good as it does on Shit Surf; this five-track effort is pretty Kick-Ass, not once rolling Snake Eyes.

Shit Surf departs off like a maddened criminal flying Con Air with “Duane & The Eddies” boasting a guitar lick that will melt your Face/Off. It breaks down into a saucy, Wild at Heart chorus that is Gone in Sixty Seconds. Next is the Moonstruck “Bloody Beach Blanket,” a lo-fi, jangly ode to being Trapped in Paradise.

You can Drive Angry to the raucous pair of “Surfin’ Kill City” and “Can’t Stand You.” The former brings The Rock with G-Force, like an Adaptation of The Beach Boys done under the influence of something The Sorcerer’s Apprentice concocted. The latter is as deadly as a Vampire’s Kiss, downright Bangkok Dangerous with a fiery hook that would do Ghost Rider proud.

The Fabulous St. Knicholas Cage closes with the Knowing, feverish “Lamarckism,” which stumbles off like some sweaty, heartbroken gambler Leaving Las Vegas or some manic, ever-shouting, tax-evading, but lovable actor with a receding hairline ditching the City of Angels. Shit Surf has Stolen my heart; it’s certainly more Raising Arizona than The Wicker Man. That’s high praise. Download it at tfskc.bandcamp.com. —Joshua Boydston
