At least two are dead and several missing after Tropical Storm Erin entered Oklahoma early Sunday, leaving flooding and fatalities in its wake.
Emergency crews and law enforcement conducted rescue operations in the wake of a tropical storm that flooded parts of the state Sunday.
Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Michelann Ooten said flooding was especially bad in Kingfisher, about 38 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. She said two deaths have been confirmed.
"The Oklahoma Highway Patrol are continuing to effect rescues in the Kingfisher area with two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft and numerous airboats, all in an attempt to assist local emergency crews doing an outstanding job." Ooten said. "I've got fatalities to confirm."
Caddo County Emergency Officials said a woman died after she sought shelter in her cellar, but became trapped in the rising water, near Fort Cobb, about 75 southwest of Oklahoma City.
Also in Caddo County, emergency personnel reportedly were searching for three missing people after floodwaters swept their van from the road.
Oklahoma's Mesonet weather reporting system shows more than 9 inches fell on Caddo County, and more than 8 inches in Kingfisher County, the sites with heaviest reported flooding. - Ben Fenwick
