Yee-haw, cowboys and cowgirls! Time to don festive attire and celebrate the holidays in true cowboy fashion.
An old-timey Western dance and dinner accompany Michael Martin Murpheys annual Cowboy Christmas Ball, 7 p.m. Friday at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, 1700 N.E. 63rd.
After 16 years of the ball, its still going strong. The event was the brainchild of Grammy-nominated country singer-songwriter Murphey, who has performed every year.
The Christmas Ball is branded with his concert, said Catherine Page- Creppon, director of public relations and museum events.
right, Michael Martin Murphey and his wife, Karen, lead a dance at the Cowboy Christmas Ball.
Murphey appears onstage dressed to the nines in his Western gear to sing and play guitar to get attendees two-stepping on the dance floor.
He plays Western music, and it is kind of Christmas-based, Page- Creppon said.
Santa will be there, step-dancing to the fiddle music and chatting with children. In between twirling on the dance floor, visitors can feast on a massive buffet. Attendees will not be able to explore the museums exhibits, but they will be able to peruse the museums gift shop.
The ball is $60 for museum members, $75 for nonmembers and $25 for children under age 12. Reservations are required.
