Those who couldn’t make it to Austin City Limits can go to a free festival closer to home instead. Saturday’s Plaza District Festival will overflow with local artists, musicians and food vendors selling their wares or focusing on keeping crowds entertained.
More than 40 artist booths will line the sides of N.W. 16th Street, with a stage in the middle of the district. Artists’ booths will include handcrafted jewelry, furniture, paintings, clothing and more. Regular shops in the Plaza District also will be open.
Some of live, local music includes The Wurly Birds, Junebug Spade and The Boom Bang. Other acts include OKC Improv, Irish dancers and Okie Stomp.
“We have a really good lineup for the stage,” said Kristen Vails, executive director of the Plaza District Association.
There will also be kid-friendly activities at the festival. The Oklahoma City Philharmonic will bring instruments that kids may learn about with professional members of the symphony. Children also can participate in a variety of art activities, including painting a mural and even their faces.
“The festival has really taken off, now we have about 5,000 people in attendance,” Vails said.
Art and food booths will run from noon to 10 p.m., while kids’ activities will run from noon to 6 p.m.
