City Arts Center at Fair Park's annual pottery sale is going on now through Dec. 21.
City Arts Center pottery students and teachers have been hard at work all year creating one-of-a-kind clay creations, including:
" bowls,
" vases,
" sculptures,
" sake sets,
" decorative items,
" wind chimes and
" many other handmade pottery pieces.
"There's lots of functional work and vases and bowls and cups and mugs and stuff like that," said Pete Coates, the center's ceramics studio manager. "We also have some sculptural pots and handmade sculptural angels."
PROCEEDS
Coates said Oklahoma potters, students and instructors donate all the pottery, which brings down the cost for shoppers.
"The prices may be more affordable than what they would normally have to pay," he said.
All of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the pottery program at City Arts Center, located at 3000 General Pershing.
CREATIVITY
Coates said he prefers handmade, clay-fired mugs to Styrofoam or plastic coffee cups because they are made of more natural ingredients.
"It's much more human and soulful and sensuous to hold a handmade cup that someone has put time into," he said.
Coates said he hopes the pottery sale will inspire shoppers to get their hands dirty and make some clay creations of their own.
"It's a great way to start collecting ceramics and get interested in taking classes," he said.
