Another bombing reference

One week ago ("Another Oklahoma City"), CFN informed readers that the founder and CEO of a left-leaning watchdog group was calling on GOP heartthrob Sarah Palin to put partisanship aside and "pull this country back from the precipice of another Oklahoma City."

Those pre-election comments came from David Brock of Media Matters for America on MSNBC's Oct. 26 airing of "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell."

After the Democrats' drubbing on Election Day, MSNBC again referenced the 1995 Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing. During a Nov. 4 segment titled "Can Obama Pull a Clinton?," Mark J. Penn, worldwide CEO of the Burson-Marsteller PR firm and former strategist for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, made the following point as a "Hardball with Chris Matthews" guest:

"Remember, President Clinton reconnected through Oklahoma," Penn said.

"Yeah, because of the bombing down there," Matthews replied.

"And the president, right now, he seems removed," Penn continued. "And it wasn't until that speech that he really clicked with the American public. Obama needs a similar kind of "¦ "

Matthews cut Penn off, asking if words would work for President Obama at this point.

"No, he's got to get some results," Penn told Matthews. "The words will work, I think, if he finds that right moment."
