Artist of the Quarantine: Ben Holeman

"My work is fundamentally human," Ben Holeman said. "I practice a form of sculpture known as lifecasting in which a mold is created directly from the human form, revealing a negative image of the model. The mold is then used to produce a highly detailed cast sculpture. Some pieces take months to execute, and it is a very intimate process. While sculpting and shaping the fine details, I begin to notice all of those perfect little imperfections that make us human. I finish the pieces with metal coatings and patinas in a way that celebrates and accentuates the model’s true disposition. My work aims to elegantly eternalize our traits in a way that leaves the narrative of the model open to interpretation by the viewer."
