Carrying fewer pounds and more confidence, patients from Oklahoma Weight Loss Options will hit the runway to publicly show off their successes.
The fourth annual Bariatric Fashion Show is from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, 1700 N.E. 63rd. The show also features a silent auction to raise money for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, which was founded to improve public health through obesity treatment.
"Many patients who chose (surgery) are people where traditional dieting hasn't worked and they face the risk of hypertension and diabetes due to weight issues," said Leah Melton, a nurse and bariatric coordinator with the Norman Regional Health System. "This is not the easy way out " it is major surgery."
Melton said more than 300 people attended last year's fashion show, which included the family and friends of many of the patients. Each patient model has lost 100 to 200 pounds.
