Bicycle club members meet to ride from bar to bar

Drinking and driving is safer than it used to be for members of two Oklahoma City bike clubs, which meet at Red Rooster Bar & Grill on Saturdays to begin their "Booze Cruise" on bikes, which then proceeds via pedal to other bars throughout the night.

"The good thing is that if you get in a wreck, you only kill yourself," said K.W. Satterfield, the founder of the Bone Shakers Bicycle Club.

Members of both the Bone Shakers and Hellkats participate in the cruise.

"We have teachers, students, a land man, a trim carpenter, wealthy members and damn near homeless members," Satterfield said. "Basically, anyone who wants to ride can participate."

PLANS
Although the cruise always starts at 9 p.m. at Red Rooster, Satterfield said they have no plan after that.

"We always plan to start, but we have no plan to finish," he said. "We've included Sauced, Hi-Lo, Sidecar, Edna's, Galileo's, VZD's and Cock-O-the Walk in our rides, but we don't have a set route."

Members have their favorite bars, but all agreed that beer is the primary drink.

"We like good beer," said Stuart Keating, a Bone Shakers rider, "But we don't have much money, so an open beer is a good beer."

The clubs also participate in "Alleycat" races, which have checkpoints that must be reached, but they can be achieved in any order, as there is no set route. The next race, on Sunday, will benefit the Regional Food Bank.
