The Oklahoma Earthbike Fellowship will kick off a fundraiser Saturday to raise money to maintain Oklahomas walking and biking trails.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Bluff Creek Trail one of the trails the group maintains on the northwest corner of Hefner Road and Meridian Avenue. Food from Deep Fork Grill and Hideaway Pizza will be provided, while background music will add to the atmosphere.
Admission for the outdoor fun is free, but participants are encouraged to make a donation or become OEF members; a one-year membership costs as little as $15.
Trails in metro parks incur a lot of damage, said OEF board member Carl Wayne Wester, from regular use and harsh weather. On Saturday, the OEF will display the tools they use to clean up such trails, so people can see the work that goes into maintaining them.
People think the state pays to keep up the trails, but they dont, Wester said, noting that the past winters heavy snow and ice storms really tore up the paths. We are trying to raise money to fix the trails and keep them up to quality.
