Black Hole Mary

The nonprofit group Freedom of Information (FOI) Oklahoma recently presented Fallin with the Black Hole award for her adeptness at obfuscation. It capped off FOI Oklahoma’s Sunshine Week program.

“Gov. Mary Fallin was named as deserving the Black Hole recognition for damaging access to records that should be easily available to the public” for the second year, its official website explained.

Fallin also “won” last year, too, when she and her attorney, Steve Mullins, were called out for using a nonexistent rule of “executive privilege” to eschew releasing emails regarding Oklahoma’s health insurance exchange program.

On the upside, state Sen. David Holt, R-Oklahoma City, earned the Sunshine Award due to his willingness to file and support legislation that’s friendly to open meeting and open records laws.
