Boulevard talk

Coordinated by city and ODOT officials, the meeting will address the planned downtown thoroughfare set to be completed in late 2014 on the existing right of way of the old Interstate 40 crosstown.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Coca-Cola Bricktown Events Center, 425 E. California Ave., said ODOT spokeswoman Brenda Perry. The public meeting is required by the Federal Highway Administration, which is funding the boulevard project.

The main topic for discussion will be a decision to change the boulevard from its originally planned six lanes to four lanes, although other issues — such as proposed roundabouts or other alternatives to a bridge spanning the Classen, Reno and Western area — are also possible for discussion.

The proposed bridge section has come under fire recently after some property and business owners in that said the would-be elevated section would cut them off from other development downtown.

The city is planning on hiring a consultant to look at other alternatives to the elevated portion. Read more on this story in next week’s Oklahoma Gazette.
