Bus book series makes Oklahoma City tour stop

Junie B. Jones is traveling all over the United States in her hot pink Stupid Smelly Bus, and at 11 a.m. Monday, the world's favorite first-grader will visit Oklahoma City.

Enticing young readers to open a good book since 1992, Barbara Park's "Junie B. Jones" book series is coming to life on the Stupid Smelly Bus Tour. Full Circle Bookstore, 1900 Northwest Expressway, will host a live theatrical performance of actors playing Junie B. and her bus driver, Mr. Woo. Bringing along her "Big Pink Trunk of Junk," Junie B. will give a show-and-tell presentation, sharing a range of familiar items from the novels.

Actress Caitlin Thurnauer plays Junie B. She said she already sees the impact of bringing Park's beloved children's book series to life, and that children love seeing Junie B.'s most endearing qualities come to life.

"To see a book come alive is really rare and important, especially for the young kids who never get to see stuff like this," Thurnauer said.

After the performance, Junie B. and Mr. Woo will hand out free souvenirs and have a book stamping session for children who bring or purchase one of the 27 books in the series. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to take pictures next to the famed Stupid Smelly Bus.
