Everyone knows that a picture is worth a thousand words, but after taking a look at a few pieces of Paul McEntire's work, one could easily come up with a few thousand more. From a simple close-up of a cactus to a sun setting on a beach somewhere in South America, McEntire's nature-centric muses are exercises in everyday beauty viewers might otherwise take for granted.
His photography exhibit, titled "Life Reflected," showcases shots from his trips to Romania, Tanzania, Cambodia and Ecuador. The exhibit is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until July 6 in the first-floor North Gallery at the state Capitol, 2300 N. Lincoln.
McEntire said photography acts to preserve a moment instead of creating a more personal translation.
"I work as a photographer, as opposed to any other artistic medium, because I like the idea of documenting moments as they are instead of creating a new, subjective version of them," McEntire said, in a press release. "I want to capture moments that the viewer can be drawn into."
Growing up in Stillwater, his passion for photography ignited at age 9, ballooning into his receiving two statewide awards in high school and establishing himself as a celebrated professional.
McEntire has created images for Wired magazine, TV Guide and Oklahoma State University, as well as freelanced for several Oklahoma businesses and Christian ministries.
