So what happens when the premier supplier country, Russia, gets a fishing ban slapped on it?
According to ABC News, snobby foodsters turn to the Sooner State for the sophisticated fish larva. Brent Gordon, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation supervisor, said buyers have come from all over Europe and Japan.
Gordon said people rave about the product, claiming it's “second to none.”
Oklahoma rivers and lakes are filled with the American Paddlefish, and the finned creature produces a high-quality egg that caviar hounds will pay big bucks to consume.
Reported ABC News, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife processed 15,000 pounds of caviar in one month, grossing $1.4 million dollars for the state agency.
