Edmond musical moppet Greyson Chance wowed the crowd at his Nov. 18 concert debut in New York City. According to Popeater.com, the YouTube sensation and Ellen DeGeneres fave capped off quite a whirlwind year with a show at Joe's Pub that "proved himself a virtuoso born for a stage and a grand piano."
Turns out the kid, who became a viral powerhouse after footage of him performing Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" at a school district concert this summer hit the Internets, has real chops.
Says Popeater, "It's not easy to justify being blown away to the point of goosebumps by such a fresh-faced little dude. But it happened, and then it happened many, many more times."
Near the end of the short show, Chance belted out a tune chosen to honor the site of his live debut: Jay-Z's Big Apple anthem, "Empire State of Mind." How'd he do? He "vamped in all the right spots, at points seeming to have borrowed Christina Aguilera's voicebox for an evening," purred Popeater.
Chance closed the show with his first single, "Waiting Outside the Lines," which streets Dec. 14 from Geffen Records.
This all bodes well for Chance's first full-length album, which is expected in early 2011. Meanwhile, our 13-year-olds are really good at trading Silly Bandz.
