Chicken-Fried News: Christmas tradition

Ah yes, the time-honored tradition of signing a contract to receive your Christmas present. Canadians celebrate Boxing Day the day after Christmas, but thanks to a young Oklahoma City couple, there could be a new tradition.

A tweet from Oklahoma City native Blake Perry went viral last week that showed a contract he had to sign from his girlfriend Ashley Davidson to receive his Christmas present, the popular Call of Duty: WWII video game.

The terms of the contract were:

1. If I call, you must pause game and talk to me with full attention.

2. No starting another match if we are planning to hang out or I ask to hang out.

3. You must ask if it is OK for you to play while I am over at your house with you. Make sure I have something to do while you are in battle.

4. You must reply to a text [in] no longer than 11 minutes.

5. Do not forget to give me just as much attention.

Long-distance relationships can be difficult. Online commenters on the story, which was aggregated by national and international publications, were equal parts critical of Davidson and understanding. Davidson, a freshman at Oklahoma Christian University, and Perry, who attends Washburn University in Kansas, appeared on KOCO to say that the contract was all in good fun.

Perry’s tweet even said, “Little does she know these rules will be broken.”

Chicken-Fried News would cosign on the contract, but we’d have to put down the Joy-Cons on our new Nintendo Switch.
