Chicken-Fried News: Like/share/sue

Cartoon oilman Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources, has moved beyond the pedestrian Throwback Thursday. Much as he pioneered fracking in Oklahoma, he seems ready to create a new fad: Sue You Saturday.

Hamm is seeking more than $75,000 in damages from Oklahoma City oilman Mickey Thompson in a defamation lawsuit because of a Facebook post.

Thompson said Hamm was trying to squelch uncomfortable science and posted a link to a story from EnergyWire about the shady connection between Hamm and the University of Oklahoma, where the Oklahoma Geological Survey was hemming and hawing about the cause of the state’s earthquake epidemic while soliciting $25 million for The Continental Resources Center for Energy Research and Technology.

We’re not sure how solid the case is, but we can certainly understand if Mr. Hamm is feeling a little strapped for cash lately. His net worth fell from $18.7 billion in 2014 to a paltry $9.8 billion this year, according to Forbes. Given he had to write his ex-wife a nearly $975,000,000 check to end their marriage, suing old friends makes a little more sense.

Maybe we should all chip in and start defaming The Hammster on social media? He only has to win about 13,000 lawsuits worth $75k to make back his massive alimony payment.
