The Pump Bar wants to rock n roll all night and party every day. Neighbors, eh ... not so much.
After bringing karaoke to its Monday night lineup, The Pump, 2425 N. Walker Ave., has been hearing more than the warbles of high-spirited guests over prerecorded backing tracks. According to KOCO.com, neighbors began to complain about the sound on the Nextdoor app and to police.
Its one thing to call the cops, but to start posting mean messages on Nextdoor is just beyond the pale. Whats next? Gossiping about widow Henderson from down the block? A petition asking those boys on the bikes to wear shirts?
Owner Ian McDermid told the TV news station that theyre trying to keep the racket down. They moved the speakers and now end karaoke at midnight, which put an end, at least temporarily, to complaints.
We at Ye Olde Gazette like to have fun as much as the next independent weekly, so we propose a compromise. At 9 p.m., the karaoke catalog is replaced with a list of lullabies. That way, singers still get to belt out some tunes and neighbors can float off to dreamland.
