Personal finance website WalletHub ranked the best and worst cities for women-owned businesses. The site “compared the 100 largest metropolitan statistical areas, or MSAs, across 10 key metrics indicating friendliness” toward women’s businesses.
Oklahoma City ranked No. 11, right behind Honolulu, Hawaii, and before Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson, Indiana.
While OKC didn’t beat out metropolises like Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin, Tennessee; Memphis; or Spokane, Washington, our fair city did rank higher than many regional metro areas like San Antonio-New Braunfels, Texas; Tulsa; Albuquerque, New Mexico; New Orleans-Metairie, Louisiana; Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, Colorado; and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas.
While our overall ranking was pretty impressive, our Business Climate for Women ranking was lacking at No. 86 (out of 100). We also ranked 14 in New Business Friendliness and No. 5 in Female Entrepreneurship.
So, while we can be proud of the fact that we treat entrepreneurial women pretty well compared to other asphalt jungles, we could still use some improvement.
