Childers wins Senate District 43 primary, advances to Oct. 11 election

Childers raked in around 58.4 percent of the 1,553
votes cast, and will now face Moore Democratic candidate Kenneth Meador,
who was unchallenged in the primary election, during the Oct. 11
general election.
The District 43 seat opened up after a term-limited
Republican Sen. Jim Reynolds, who successfully ran in November for the
position of Cleveland County treasurer.

Senate District 43 covers
part of eastern Oklahoma County and goes into northern Cleveland
County, encompassing parts of Oklahoma City, Del City, all of Valley
Brook and part of Moore. As a result of this year’s redistricting, it
will shift far to the south in November to include all of McClain
County, most of Stephens County and parts of Grady and Garvin counties.

Childers,
41, formerly worked at Norman’s postal training center for 20 years and
taught classes at the University of Oklahoma for the past eight years.
