Children's authors read their books online

We've been self-isolating for weeks now, and we're all starting to get stir-crazy, but we have to admit that parents and caretakers of small children have most likely been feeling that way since day three. Luckily, children's authors understand and have taken to the internet to distract your little monsters so you can get a few minutes of peace.

Oklahoma-based publisher Penny Candy Books has a Homebound Resources page on its website with educational videos on books, music and things to do while you're stuck inside.

Beloved author Neil Gaiman posted a video of a reading of The Graveyard Book on his young readers website, where you can also find a video of Gaiman and a bunch of famous authors reading Gaiman's book Coraline.

Artist and author Oliver Jeffers has started #stayathomestorytime, in which he reads one of his books on Instagram Live at 1 p.m. every day and posts the videos to his website. Oliver's books include Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth, which has been adapted into a series by AppleTV; This Moose Belongs to Me; and Stuck, among others.

Kate Messner, author of Chirp and The Next President as well as other fiction and nonfiction titles, has been reading her books on YouTube for a few weeks.

Dan Gutman has vowed he will go live on his Facebook page and read one of his books every day until kids get to go back to school. His book series include My Weird School, Flashback Four, Baseball Card Adventures Stories and The Genius Files Series, among others.

Author and illustrator Debbie Ridpath Ohi is posting read-alouds of her Simon & Schuster books and giving drawing lessons on her YouTube channel.

Mac Barnett, author of the Jack Book and Mac B. Kid Spy series as well as others, reads his books at 2 p.m. every day on Instagram.

Pete the Cat series illustrator James Dean reads on Instagram at 11 a.m. every day.

Melinda Long, author of How I Became a Pirate, reads her books aloud on videos posted on her website.

Franklin's Flying Bookshop writer and YouTuber Jen Campbell is going live on Instagram every day at 3 p.m. London time (that's 9 a.m. Oklahoma time) and reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. The videos are only available for 24 hours, so don't miss them!
