Here's a recent arrival from south of the border that has Oklahomans scrambling to get one: the chiminea.
Chimineas " as well as a variety of other fire pits " can be had throughout the metro area. Kathy Emmert, owner of Statuary World Patio & Fireside, said the cooler weather has a lot of customers walking out the door with one.
"Well, they are just a real hit right now. We have all sizes of terra-cotta ones as well as cast iron these days," Emmert said. "The cast-iron ones are more permanent, but we sell both."
FIRE PITS
For those who want the warmth, but a different touch, there is the fire pit. This approach usually has a steel or other metal container into which a fire is built or even gas is fired. Usually covered with a screen, fire pits can be anything from a freestanding brazier to a table with a container in the middle for the fire.
"They have become real popular," said Geoff Rogers, a sales associate at Watson's Super Store. "Since it's cooling down, everyone wants to go outside and sit down and enjoy the fire."
Rogers said one of the store's top wood-burning models is a stone tabletop with a recess in the center for the fire.
"It's a granite table with a copper bowl in the center," he said. "The bowl pops out for easy cleaning. We have people who use it in the summer and use the bowl as an ice chest." "Ben Fenwick
