The report from the Consultant Review Committee states the canal extension would pass under the existing bridge built for the realigned Interstate 40, and will include a pedestrian link between the bridges two landing areas.
The construction cost of the plan would run around $2.2 million, according to documents provided to the council.
The measure also contains language that would allow the city engineer to begin negotiations with Johnson & Associates Inc., which was ranked first by the committee among potential engineering firms to work on the canal extension.
