Many hands-on activities will be available for participants to enjoy, said Alex Mattison, communication coordinator for the museum, including fingerprinting, ballistics, DNA extraction and chromatography, which is the separation of gases, solids or liquids.

“The activities are all a lot of fun for the kids, because they are very visual,” he said. “The DNA extraction, especially, is very interesting.”

Along with these activities, members of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation will be on hand to answer questions and interact with kids.

“It’s exciting for kids to meet the members of OSBI because they are the real crime fighters who do this every day,” Mattison said. “Forensics is a fascinating subject, and we hope kids will leave with a greater understanding of it and ways to get involved with the OSBI, if that’s what they’re interested in.”

Forensics Day activities are included with general admission to Science Museum Oklahoma, 2100 N.E. 52nd, which is $10.95 for adults and $8.95 for children and seniors. For more information, call 602-6664 or visit sciencemuseumok.org. —Courtney Silva
