"Chronicles of Narnia" fans can celebrate the return of the annual C.S. Lewis and Inklings Society conference to Oklahoma City University this weekend.

The conference features lectures on the works of Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and other writers, along with presentations by literature scholars and authors Michael Ward and Diana Glyer. The lectures are scheduled to run throughout the day Friday and Saturday.

Salwa Khoddam, who founded the OCU chapter of CSLIS in 2004 and is an English professor at the college, said hosting the conference is a great opportunity to share the group's message.

"This is our 13th year hosting the conference," she said. "Our mission is (to) promote interest and scholarship in the Inklings Society. We feel their work is very inspiring. It gives us hope in these days of social problems."

Ward's most recent book, "Planet Narnia," argues that the imagery of Lewis' world was derived from the seven heavens of the medieval cosmos. Gyler is a professor of English at Azusa Pacific University in California and authored "The Company They Keep," a book about Lewis in society.

The keynote lectures are free and open to the public, and will be held at the Meinders School of Business on the OCU campus, 2501 N. Blackwelder. For more information, visit www.okcu.edu/english/cslis. "Luke Atkinson
