OK, so thats not an actual fact, but in my own guesstimation which includes expertise from years in lingerie sales its pretty darn close.
One thing I learned from my retail days is that women typically wear the wrong size for two reasons:
1) Theyre in denial, and
2) Theyre uninformed.
Seriously, get yourself measured.
Its maybe 30 seconds of an uncomfortably close situation involving a tape measure, but then youll know. And knowledge is power.
The toughest bra barrier to hurtle is denial. Maybe youre holding onto a size from long ago or your cup long since has runneth over.
The thing is, ladies: Bras arent supposed to hurt. If they do, youre wearing the wrong size.
When thats the case, strange and uncomfortable things start to happen. First, youll feel like you cant breathe. And everyone likes to breathe, right?
Second, your underwire might dig into your skin and cause marks or general pain. Stop squeezing your tatas!
Third, the life of the bra will be reduced dramatically. Whether thats a wire popping out and possibly stabbing you or your hooks pulling apart too much, an improper fit is a waste of money.
So, get measured and establish your size. Accept your size. See, that wasnt so bad, was it?
Now comes the fun part: shopping! If youre a common size, bra shopping probably always has been fun for you. But if youre among the growing number of women who dont fit nicely into a 34-36 B or C, your options in the metro have just increased.
The Ruff Life Lingerie & Vintage (1630 N. Blackwelder; 601-9994) is the newest concept in the Plaza District, aiming to sexy things up a bit. Youll be happy to know that sizes range from 32A to 38H, in brands like Gossard and Curvy Kate.
Womens Health Boutique (12062 N. May; 936-0030) is another great stop for women who have sizes outside the traditional cup. Along with a broad range of sizes, it offers personal fittings and a variety of shapewear. The boutique sells nursing bras and mastectomy products, as well.
Now, for the ladies who do wear a more traditional size: Check out The Lingerie Store (7636 N. Western; 841- 9828). The shop also carries AA-M cups, so everyone is covered (literally).
Its not just bras here, either. Check out some sexy lingerie, in leather or lace, or subtle shapewear for skimpy dresses that require an extra-firm tummy.
Have some fun with your bra shopping now that youve got choices, no matter what size you wear. Lets shop, OKC!
