In response to the May 5, 2010, article about mushrooms (Greg Horton,"'Shroom with a view, Oklahoma Gazette), I wish to take this opportunity to alert anyone who might be considering using mushrooms, whether for spiritual, recreational or any other reason: Please beware!
My 22-year-old son used mushrooms one time, on Friday, March 13, 1981, with some of his classmates from the fine arts school at the University of Oklahoma. He was never the same again. When I talked to him on the phone, I could tell something was different.
He had always been very happy and well adjusted.
He came home that summer, and we talked about it some, although it was very vague. He thought he had been hypnotized that night. I didn't know what to do. On August 30, 1981, he calmly lay down in front of an oncoming train and ended his life.
