The Paseo Arts District’s newest gallery is the attempt of a married couple to showcase works in a wide variety of media from outstanding statewide talent.

Summer Wine Art Gallery, which opened Aug. 24, will host its grand opening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

For the event, Summer Wine will display at least two pieces each from 20 Oklahoma artists. Twelve of them have been published in national magazines, while four have pieces in the Oklahoma state Capitol’s collection. Some showcased artists will paint live for the opening and be available to answer any questions visitors may have.

Owners Linda and Jim Hiller chose the name of the gallery because “the last of the summer wine” is a saying for “the end of the road.”

“We are 65 years old; some people say it’s insanity,” Jim Hiller said of opening the gallery. Located at 2928-B Paseo, the gallery is a traditional one, he said, noting that Summer Wine will keep the work of the 20 selected artists as long as they wanted, providing their art was selling.

“We decided we knew enough people and enough artists that we could put together a high-end gallery,” he said.
