Digital print exhibit finds color in the mundane

y.

Ray Payn "? an Oklahoma City native, who fled to California to teach at Pepperdine University and the University of California, Los Angeles "? is back in the metro as the featured artist in the "Eclectic Potpourri" show, currently on display in the Lobby Gallery at the Midwest City Library.

PROCESS
Payn takes street-level digital photos of the world around him "? asphalt, signs, bicycle racks "? and then prints the images onto canvas. Payn then enhances his digital prints with poppy acrylic colors, filling in areas of the canvas with bright paint and emphasizing other areas with bold lines.

He credits his work in commercial training and marketing programs for his unique take on photography and art, which often emphasizes less obvious areas of the photos that, while ordinary, seem exciting and interesting when pointed out with color.

"Eclectic Potpourri" is on display at the Midwest City Library, 8143 E. Reno, through Jan. 31. For more information, call 732-4828.
