Disconnect' DJ series benefits local charities

Need a good reason to hit a bar on a Tuesday night? Well, the Sidecar Cocktail Lounge has you covered with its monthly "Disconnect," an event that raises money for a changing list of metro charities. The Sidecar partners with DJ collective The Iconoclast Crew, hoping that dance music + alcohol = charitable goodwill.

The first "Disconnect" show took place in early December, and raised $380 for Feed the Children. This Tuesday, $2 door donations will be collected for The Salvation Army, according to Dianeme Weidner, who performs as DJ Ostara.

"We don't have a set ideal for the types of charities we donate to. We look for charities that people don't think as much about," she said.

CHARITIES
According to Weidner, organizers simply call local charities to see if "Disconnect" proceeds are needed; a few have been reluctant to accept money collected at a bar. Weidner said she is eager to find an animal rescue organization to help.

The Iconoclast Crew is comprised of eight female DJs, whose styles encompass:
" electro,
" house,
" drum and bass,
" Eighties, and
" hip-hop.

Tuesday's Disconnect show starts at 9 p.m. at Sidecar, 5100 N. Classen Circle. For more information, call 601-2488 or visit their site. "Charles Martin
