Edison Glass brings The Bang Tour to OKC

Hailing from Long Island, Edison Glass' members first began playing music together in church, and formed their first band almost 10 years ago.

Thomas Alva Edison may have never appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone, but the father of the phonograph is a major inspiration for the group. So much, in fact, the band named itself after the inventor, as well as innovative composer Philip Glass.

"Both of those figures are inspirational geniuses on the cutting edge of their respective fields," said guitarist James Usher. "I guess that's something we aspire to."

SECOND ALBUM
Earlier this year, Edison Glass released its latest invention in the form of a second full-length album, "Time Is Fiction" " a collection of indie-rock songs that prove frenetic and contemplative, and seem clearly intended to expand on the group's previous efforts.

"Every record we've done is a step in a new direction," Usher said. "When songs or sounds get old, we tend to look back, learn and critically analyze what we like and don't like. Then we move forward into new territory, bringing along whatever we still like."

Edison Glass is performing nationwide alongside fellow indie-rock bands Nightmare of You, The Graduate, and Paper Rival as part of The Bang Tour, which makes its stop Monday at The Conservatory.

"We love (Nightmare of You) and are glad to have met them," Usher said. "They're from New York, too, so I think that helped us connect easy. This is our first time touring with Paper Rival and I love their set more every night." "Lucas Ross
