Care for a slice of synthesizer sounds sprinkled with electronic beats that crumbles with sweet garage-punk vocals? Grab a fork and help yourself to a slice of Peachcake, a buzzed-about band that cooks quirky songs with a colorful stage show.
The Arizona-based "band," according to Stefan Pruett, one of Peachcake's founding members, started in 2004 as a duo with himself and co-vocalist John O'Keefe, but quickly blossomed into a collective effort both in the studio and live on stage. Peachcake will play Monday at Convergence.
"We've taken a huge path, changing and metamorphosing," Pruett said. "Of course, every band says that, but we really have become a forum for every kind of sound."
OFFBEAT
The band has been on the road off and on for the last three years, and played a show at last year's South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. And although Pruett's knowledge of Oklahoma doesn't extend past The Flaming Lips, which he said is a good thing, the band took the stage last year at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa to open for power-poppers Hellogoodbye.
While not for everybody, Peachcake's offbeat, collective nature and mash-up of sounds always manages to be a live spectacle, Pruett said.
