Flaming Lips Alley's official dedication slated Thursday

If you have lunch plans on Thursday, you should cancel them. And if they involve going anywhere near Bricktown, they will probably need to be rescheduled.

The dedication of Flaming Lips Alley, which runs between the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark and the LiT Lounge, will start at 11:30 a.m. near the Mickey Mantle entrance to the ballpark, and in grand Lips' tradition, is expected to be a colorful explosion of fanfare to the Bricktown lunch crowd.

Officials with the Oklahoma City mayor's office said the dedication is free and open to the public, and will be a "multimedia event" with a 40-foot video screen, costumed fans and, of course, confetti cannons.

The Grammy-winning band officially received the alley honor from the Oklahoma City Council in December 2006.
