Food Briefs: ARTonTAP, Dérailleur, Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour and more

Tap that

Beer lovers rejoice: It’s lucky year 13 for ARTonTAP, Oklahoma City Museum of Art’s annual beer-tasting event. Tickets to the Sept. 23 party went on sale Aug. 19.

This year’s event features more than 80 beers to try from local brewers Anthem Brewing Company, Belle Isle Brewing Company, Bricktown Brewery, COOP Ale Works, Marshall Brewing Company and Roughtail Brewing Company as well as national and international brands from Capital Distributing, Oklahoma Beer Imports, Paragon Brands, Premium Brands Wine & Spirits, Quality Beverage Company and Rahr & Sons Brewing Company.

Food from Museum Cafe, Brown Egg Bakery, James E. McNellie’s Public House, Old Germany Restaurant and Texadelphia will also be served.

Guests will be able to view the museum’s exhibits and enjoy the Heineken USA Roof Terrace Beer Garden overlooking the city.

ARTonTAP sells out of its 800 tickets almost every year. Tickets are $45-$50 for nonmembers and are available at okcmoa.org.

Museum marketing and communications director Becky Weintz said the event is so popular with the staff that many buy tickets to attend as guests and show off the museum. Funds raised support the museum bringing in exhibitions like Matisse in His Time.

Yukon territory

Though it opened earlier this year, Yukon restaurant and coffee shop Dérailleur celebrates its official grand opening during Labor Day weekend.

The modern American restaurant, 10 W. Main St., Suite 100, is the passion project of owner Richie Bean, who moved to Yukon when he was 16. After serving in the Marine Corps, he returned and decided he wanted to revitalize Main Street, which was an important area for him during high school.

Free events, including bounce houses and obstacle courses for children, a car show, food trucks and shaved ice, are scheduled Sept. 2-3. Jeff Dodgen, The Main Liners and The Lonelys perform Sept. 2, and Matt Cowell, Tequila Songbirds and Steelwind perform Sept. 3.

There will also be activities all weekend at The Paint Mill next door.

Tasty tour

Twenty-thousand bucks will buy a lot of ribs.

That’s how much barbecue teams in Midwest City vie for Sept. 24 when Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour comes to town.

Sanctioned by Kansas City Barbeque Society, the world’s largest barbeque competition organization, the event pits teams against one another to create the best chicken, pork ribs, pork and beef brisket.

The sixth annual tour stages local and regional competitions across the nation, including a stop at Sam’s Club, 6521 SE 29th St., in Midwest City. One of five regional qualifying events, teams compete for a slot in the Sam’s Club National BBQ Championship Oct. 1 in Bentonville, Arkansas. The championship includes a $50,000 top prize. Visit kcbs.us/samstour for more information.

The Midwest City competition is more than a qualifier for teams; it also gives the public a look inside the grills of championship barbecue chefs.

Michael McDearman will demonstrate grilling techniques and let the public sample the finished product. Non-competing guests are encouraged to attend between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Visit kcbs.us/samstour.
