Big Texans

Oklahoma City has no shortage of steakhouses, but the opening of Texas de Brazil Churrascaria brings the Brazilian steakhouse concept back to the city for the first time in years.

The franchise opened a Tulsa location in June. The Oklahoma City venue, 1901 Northwest Expressway, Suite 1069B inside Penn Square Mall, is the second in the state and the 48th for the company.

“We are thrilled to bring the art of churrasco to the residents of Oklahoma City,” said company culinary director Evandro Caregnato. “We are currently having great success with our recently opened Tulsa location, and we’re eager to continue sharing our authentic Brazilian experience with even more guests.”

The 7300-square-foot restaurant holds 190 guests and provides them a view of the grill, which prepares beef, lamb, pork, chicken and Brazilian sausages that the gauchos carve at the table for guests. Prices are $42.99 for a regular dinner, including meat service and salad area, or $24.99 for a salad area-only dinner. Visit or call 405-362-9200.

Spooky supper

New general manager and executive chef Cally Johnson is wasting no time setting up special events at J. Bruner’s at The Haunted House, 7101 Miramar Blvd.

Taking advantage of the beautiful scenery outside the classic restaurant, Johnson planned a Haunted Lawn dinner at 6 p.m. Sept. 25.

“It’s all local and it’s going to be amazing,” she said.

The event will be exclusive, with just 40 seats available to guests, she said.

The dinner is $100, including wine. Reservations are required and are available by calling 405-478-1417.


Ooh la la

“This is probably the most excited I’ve been to do an event in a long time,” said Ludivine co-owner and chef Jonathon Stranger about his audacious plans for Le Restaurant Français of the 1939 World’s Fair, a special dinner served on the Wheeler Ferris Wheel 6-9 p.m. Sept. 18.

Guests will enjoy period-friendly cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before climbing aboard the Ferris wheel, 1701 S. Western Ave., for a four-course meal. The dishes are inspired by French cuisine and food served at the 1939 World’s Fair.

The Savoy Trio will perform, and dancers will entertain. Though period dress is not required, it is encouraged, Stranger said.

Tickets are $100.99, available at, and include a few different experiences. As they arrive, guests will be served drinks from Ludivine bar team Chris Barrett and Colby Poulin with charcuterie and a raw bar for appetizers.

When their names are called, riders will embark on the Ferris wheel and be served by Stranger and Ludivine co-owner chef Russ Johnson for an approximately 30-minute ride. Afterward, they will be served a coupe nesselrode dessert.

“I want it to be a special event with big exclamation points on each word,” Stranger said.

Icy welcome

The problem with training employees in a wide-open concept like newly opened Andy’s Frozen Custard, 5801 Northwest Expressway, is customers start arriving before it’s open, said marketing and communications manager Avery Klein.

The Missouri-based franchise opened its first Oklahoma City store Aug. 24.

“Warr Acres is an important market for Andy’s Frozen Custard. Now with our store in the Oklahoma City area, we’re excited to serve new fans of new markets and continue our push into the state of Oklahoma,” said company president Andy Kuntz.

Andy’s is already working on a second location in the metro, with a new store scheduled to open in Edmond in Spring 2017.

Andy’s shares a hometown with another recent transplant; the first location of J. Bruner’s at The Haunted House is in Osage Beach, Missouri, as well.
