Forum to discuss flood prevention, recovery set for Aug. 12

Those impacted by the metro's June and July floods are urged to attend the city's Flood Risk, Reduction and Recovery Forum, scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12. The forum will be held in the auditorium at Metro Tech Springlake Campus, 1900 Springlake Drive.

Discussions will cover flood maps, flood risks, flood insurance, drainage channel maintenance, flood plain management plans, the process to request a disaster declaration for individual assistance, and eligibility for Small Business Administration loans. Speakers from federal and state emergency management agencies, the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Small Business Administration and the City of Oklahoma City will present.

"Residents were caught by surprise by the city's recent floods," Ward 7 Councilman Skip Kelly said. "This forum will help people understand what their risk of flooding is, the ins and outs of flood plain maps, and how to protect their property from future floods."
