Free Comic Book Day scheduled for Saturday

The sixth annual Free Comic Book Day will be held nationwide Saturday.

Visitors to participating area stores can choose from 43 titles specially published for FCBD, featuring such characters as:
" Spider-Man,
" Justice League of America,
" Transformers,
" Mickey Mouse,
" The Simpsons,
" Archie and more.

"A whole bunch of people come in every year," said Brian "Buck" Berlin, owner of New World Comics at 6219 N. Meridian. "Most of the time, it's the adults who are interested and their kids that are drug along. But more often than not, the kids stay interested."

NEW GENERATION
Children used to be the bread and butter of the comics industry, but that changed with the explosion of video game systems and the advent of DVDs. It's largely the adults who grew up on comics who read them, but FCBD hopes to introduce a whole new generation to the art form.

"With comics, with such a vast ocean of choice out there, you don't know where to begin, whereas with video games, you can just stick with whatever movie you've just seen," Berlin said.
