The OCU annual International Film Institute's 38th year: Women Filmmakers Showcase, with free screenings the second Sunday of each month during the school year. In honor of International Women’s Day we present Turkish-French director Ergüven’s feature debut, a heartfelt coming-of-age story. Five orphaned sisters full of life pursue their passions—whether boys or soccer—but as they near adulthood, their behavior catches the attention of disapproving conservative community members. From this story grows an exploration of how individuality and society must negotiate and how individuals might thrive despite oppression. In Turkish with English subtitles.
