The Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum is diversifying its high-tech interactive galleries by featuring artist Paul Medina's mixed-media pieces in an exhibit through July 2.
A native Oklahoman, Medina is one of four artists whose work is being featured in the museum's 2008 "art on shARTel" series. Staying true to his Spanish and French heritage, much of Medina's artwork utilizes those artistic traditions while creating unique pieces from different media. This combination of tradition and innovation is his art's most well-known characteristic.
"Part of the joy of making art is the struggle through the unknown of materials and new tools," Medina said, in a press release.
From his eclectic artwork collection, his newest exhibition, "Simpatico," is on display in the Tulsa World Gallery of the museum. Medina's style has earned him a reputation as one of Oklahoma's most distinctive talents, and for this reason, he is one of the museum's featured artists of the season.
"The Gaylord-Pickens Museum focuses on telling Oklahoma's story through its people," said Karlee Chill, director of museum exhibitions. "The artists we are privileged to showcase this year are a tribute to our state's creativity, talent and passion."
The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. For more information, call 235-4458.
