Gazette names new editor-in-chief

An award-winning journalist, Bacharach was an associate editor and staff writer for the Gazette between 1994 and 1999. Among his beats were politics, education and the Oklahoma City bombing. He has remained a fixture in these pages in subsequent years, contributing occasional features and film reviews as he pursued careers in political communications and public relations.

“I am excited to join Oklahoma Gazette and contribute to its mission of enhancing quality of life in Central Oklahoma,” said Bacharach, an Oklahoma City native. “For more than 30 years, this paper has played a unique but vital role in the cultural landscape of this community, and I hope to build on that standard of excellence.”

Bacharach served in two governors’ administrations: He was press secretary and chief writer to former Gov. Brad Henry, a Democrat, for most of his two terms in office. Prior to that, Bacharach served as deputy press secretary to Republican Gov. Frank Keating from 1999 to 2002.

Bacharach’s journalism career has extended to work in television and radio news. He is also a former director of corporate communications for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
