Maybe you got the short end of the stick when it comes to filling out your pants. If you feel this way, you’re not alone. The fix? The perfect pair of jeans.
Let them cup and hug and lift you in all the right places. (Who needs a significant other with the promise of that, right?)
So what’s it take to find that perfect pair here in the OKC metro?
If you’ve not been to Gil’s Clothing & Denim Bar, then you need to scoot over to 7644 N. Western (848-0334) immediately. This store is urban and trendy, and you’re greeted with smiles when you breeze through the doors.
It has an ample denim bar at the back of the store that features many pairs of jeans. I sifted through some of the sale racks, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of denim available. If labels are your thing, you’ll find Rock & Republic, Howe and Diesel, to name a few of the more than 15 brands Gil’s carries. I chatted with the assistant manager, Emily Duncan, who was very helpful.
“There’s not a universal fit,” Duncan said.
The denim-buying experience is personal, and she expressed the importance of patience in finding the right pair for you. Although Gil’s doesn’t have tailoring on site, it prides itself in offering reasonable prices, as well as a trusted tailor recommendation.
Make sure to stop in from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 17 for the Wilshire Village Holiday Open House. Ten percent of all proceeds will be given charitably to White Fields.
If your style is a little more granola (think raw denim) or quirky, head on over to Blue Seven (7518 N. May; 604-5199). Here you’ll find an entire room devoted to trousers. There are pants on the denim bar and the wall, as well as hanging from the ceiling (no, really).
Lucky for you, Blue Seven always has a denim guru manning the station to field questions and help with fit. Ben Hill suggests you start by asking yourself these questions:
1. What’s your lifestyle?
2. How often will you wear them?
3. What’s your personal style?
4. What’s your price range?
Once you’ve established those basics, your denim aficionado will present you with some excellent choices. Ensuring the right pair of britches here isn’t just a sale: it’s the beginning of a relationship.
“Denim has character,” said Hill.
If you can do without the denim counselors, another great selection in this city, surprisingly enough, is housed at the Daisy Exchange (6926 Northwest Expressway; 720-2274).
This local-owned haven for secondhand has impressively high standards. In fact, many of its items still have the tags intact. The back part of the store is brimming with filled racks. Jeans are hung according to size, and the Daisy Exchange offers dressing rooms to ensure fit before you purchase.
Whatever your style or cash point, this city has a remarkable array of denim. Let’s shop, OKC!
