Greg Burns is known for capturing Oklahoma landmarks and buildings on canvas, incorporating his interpretation of real life in his pieces.
Burns' career-spanning exhibit, "Visions of Reality," is on display at the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum, 1400 Classen Drive. From depictions of Italy, to landscapes of Colorado and even here in the Sooner State, a wide breadth of diverse locales can be viewed. That variety lends itself to museum patrons' enjoyment, said Erin Page, the museum's director of communications and marketing.
"He does not try to make every piece of art perfect," she said. "It's not necessarily reality he portrays, but he adds his own take on the landscapes and subjects of his artwork.
"He really puts his heart and soul into his artwork. People will enjoy the range of artistry involved in the exhibit. It is truly an incredible combination of all of the things Burns does best."
Born with arthrogryposis, a disease that limits the usage of muscles and joints in the arms and legs, Burns often places the brush in between his teeth in order to paint. His creative method usually begins with ink drawings that are later filled with watercolors.
"Visions of Reality" opens today and runs through March 12, 2011. Burns will lead an artist demonstration from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, during which museum admission is free.
