Harnessing humanities

OHC Executive Director Ann Thompson praised the work of the Gazette, which received the Community Support Award.

“Under our mission to engage people with the humanities, we are pleased to honor the people and organizations that are keeping culture — and our understanding of it — alive,” she said.

“It’s fitting that Oklahoma Gazette receive the Community Support Award for supporting cultural programming across the state. They are an invaluable resource in our state working hand in-hand with nonprofits to promote programming, offering a calendar of free events, and featuring content that truly embraces the humanities.”

Gazette founder and publisher William Bleakley accepted the award on behalf of the newspaper.

“To be recognized for promoting public understanding of ideas and issues related to the humanities makes us proud,” he said. “When you stop and consider how the humanities are all the academic disciplines that study the human condition, that’s a lot of public understanding to promote. Humanities are at the heart of what our newspaper strives to be.”
