Hats off

But what makes for a hit on the catwalks of New York or Paris can seem far-fetched when making the translation to your personal life.

If you’d like to dabble in
the spirit of the week, however — maybe even get a little crazy —
artistic options are closer than you might think.

Local
artist Nicole Moan works in a variety of media, but one of the most
interesting is her expressive, unique ceramic corsets. For a statement
piece, this just might be your in.

Most
styles are lace-up, allowing for wiggle room in the fit. If you’d
prefer to cinch up tightly, that can be arranged, as well. Who needs
wiggle room when you look hella fierce?

Moan
has a new design that involves pleather and feathers. Can’t exactly
picture what this all might look like? Head to Oculus Gallery, 518 N.W.
23rd, to take a look and purchase.

Marla
Cook, a fashion savant who recently returned to her home state from
NYC, is a believer in wearable art. The Millinery Shop, a pop-up hat
shop, is currently featured at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N. Walker.

From
6 to 10 p.m. today through Saturday, you can explore this impressive
shop, as well as Rosemary Burke’s fashion illustrations and Behnaz
Sohrabian’s portraits of women.

The
shop displays fascinators that Cook has collected from New York, Los
Angeles, Dallas and other major cities. This isn’t a
look-but-don’t-touch kind of thing. Au contraire! Purchase hats off the rack or order custom-made creations.

Want to have a bigger hand in what’s on your head? RSVP for “A Spring Affair,” a hat-styling workshop
1-4 p.m. Saturday at JRB. You’ll have the chance to spruce up an old
favorite or create an original.

If you’d rather not
wear art, but still seek a form of fashionable artistic expression,
check out The Josef Collection. You might be familiar with some of local
artist Matt Josef’s paintings, as they hung on the walls of Ludivine
for the Art Revolves series’ third installation. The floral, somewhat abstract pieces usually have a common theme: his use of gold flecks.

He
recently announced on Facebook.com that select prints will be featured
on society6.com, a prominent hipster haven for contemporary art.

Sure,
you can find prints there, but you also can get throw pillows, iPhone
cases and laptop and iPad skins. Choose one of his 22 featured paintings
and make a statement by gracing your home with the talents of a young,
local artist. Find the paintings at society6.com/josefcollection.

Give the artistic approach a go.

Let’s shop, OKC!
